Sydnee is an 8th grade student at The Oakridge School and has attended there for the past 8 years. She enjoys playing the guitar, music, art, and all running sports. Her interests are anything medical, and aspires to be a pediatric hip specialist.

Jun-Ho (John) Koh

Jun-Ho (John) Koh is a senior at The Oakridge School. He plays five instruments: piano, violin, clarinet, guitar, and drums. John started a non-profit organization called Melodies 4 Life during the summer before his senior year. The organization seeks to make a positive impact in the lives of children and youth, primarily through music education. John loves sports. He has been on the Varsity Soccer team since his freshman year, and is captain of the team this year. He is the president of National Honor Society, HOSA, Students against Destructive Decisions (SADD) club, Positive Healthy Active Teenagers (PHAT) club, and Optimist Club. John hopes to study management and marketing during the next four years in college.

Landry Levine

Landry is a Senior at Oakridge, where he has gone to school since the seventh grade. He enjoys using his time in the theatre at Oakridge, and has appeared in numerous productions there, most recently in the role of Macbeth in William Shakespeare’s “Macbeth”. He also enjoys spending his time playing guitar and singing, and is a founder of the Rock and Roll club at Oakridge.

Caroline Boyd-Rogers is as sophomore at The Oakridge School. She is a level eight gymnast at Trevino’s Gymnastics School. Caroline is an avid reader who enjoys history and writing. She would like to thank her parents for enriching her life with literature.

Logan McGill

My name is Logan McGill and I am a junior at Greenhill school. Swimming is my passion, but I also enjoy running and playing the piano. I have been swimming since I was in the second grade and I am planning on continuing it at the collegiate level. The summer before 8th grade I was diagnosed with scoliosis and was prescribed a back brace. Thankfully, the brace did not slow me down and made me stronger as a person. I enjoy sharing my story to anyone who would like to know and am so thankful I have the opportunity to stand up and speak in front of people about my journey with scoliosis.

Hi, my name is Grace Ramsey and I am 14 years old and in the eighth grade. I attend The Oakridge School and participate in Musical Theater, the Archery Club, National Junior Honor Society, Equestrian Training, and Softball. I also serve as an Oakridge Ambassador and as the only girl in the Color Guard. My hobbies include writing, reading, and knitting.

Henry is a 14 and an 8th grader at Greenhill School. Henry and his partner won 3rd place at the National History Day National Competition in College Park, Maryland. Henry is excited to talk about his road to the competition and all he has learned about the art of perseverance and working through challenges.

Beckham Myers

Beckham is 13 year old 8th grader at Greenhill School who has played piano for 6 years. In his spare time, Beckham develop an interest in science and engineering, specifically the work of Nikola Tesla and his work on developing the Tesla Coil. Beckham’s interests not only lie in the engineering behind the coil, but also its affect on society and possibilities for the future. Beckham worked very hard to build, and rebuild, his own working model of Tesla Coil at home. He is thrilled to share that process and the story of Nikola Tesla in his talk.

Lauren Stock

Lauren is a 13 year old 8th grader at Greenhill School who enjoys dance, softball and being involved in her synagogue. In 2010 Lauren started a program called High School Heroes where she speaks to high school seniors about the importance of registering to be a potential bone marrow donor – a topic near to her heart, as her mother was the recipient of a life-saving stem cell transplant from a marrow donor. Lauren has shared her tremendous story in a number of ISAS schools and is a great example of taking action and inspiring others to do the same anyway they can.

Nathanael King has attended All Saints’ Episcopal School since 2002, and is currently a Sophomore. He is passionate about English Literature, Journalism and current events. Nathanael enjoys writing, travel, theater, and long-distance running. He attended the Iowa Young Writers’ Studio this past summer to improve his fiction.






Contemporary Literary Trends in Secondary Education

Santosh Murugan

Santosh is a sophomore at Trinity Valley School. He has a special interest in scientific research, which led to his discovery of bioresorbable bone tissue this past year. He has won numerous science awards at both the regional and state levels, including an invitation from Governor Perry to participate in a Science Champions Academy. He is also a national champion in Indian dance, and is a second degree black belt. In his free time, Santosh enjoys playing golf and table tennis, traveling worldwide, and participating in debate/speech tournaments. He volunteers extensively for the American Red Cross, and is the Cofounder and Vice President of Bright Future for Blind, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping the visually impaired and economically-disadvantaged people in India. This experience and frustration concerning a lack of aids for them is the motivation for his speech, which he hopes will help millions of visually impaired people and raise awareness of their plight.

Garrison Roe

Garrison is a junior at TVS and has a passion for politics and public policy. He is a member of the drumline, tennis team, debate club, and a regular attendee of the Political Club. He has a desire to educate people on political issues that pose philosophical questions that face his generation, so that more people will be capable of forming opinions to address these concerns.

Michael Johns

Michael is a senior at Trinity Valley School and enjoys running track and cross country. He serves as captains for these sports, as well as President of the Political Club and was a founding member of the Debate Team. His interest in Finance led him to seek an internship with TPG Capital, where he has worked for three summers. Michael hopes to study Finance in college and one day pursue an MBA.
